Stourbridge Ladies 3 (1) v Wyre Forest Phoenix 2 (0)
Well the Ladies County team kicked off their first game for the new season with what looked like a new team with several new players. The game was a friendly played away at Stourbridge Ladies, and it would enlighten management on team fitness and players position with the new personnel. This was enhanced by three players from the West Mids. team, for which we say thank you, Tracey Evans, Kirsty Roberts and Kelly Preece.
The team battled well in an evenly contested game, against a well drilled team. Passing was good and play was pleasing as the team got to grips in what could almost be called their first game. However during a lapse in defence the opposition hit the bottom right hand corner to make the score 1-0 at half time.
Thirteen minutes into the second half, a horrific clash between Kirsty Roberts and the Stourbridge Keeper saw Phoenix awarded a penalty. This was duly converted by Melissa Knott to level the score. However we conceded a further two goals within the next fifteen minutes, but we did not drop our heads. We fought hard and debutant Emily Taylor scored after receiving a great cross in from Vicky Hyde. This was where the game finished 3-2.
The game was played well, with both teams getting rid of the summer cobwebs ready for the new season. This was a good effort and the team were clearly starting to gel towards the end of the game. The only downside was the injury to Kirsty Roberts sustained in her clash, and resulted in a trip to A&E.
The County team continue preparations next week with a friendly against Perrywoods.
There is still time to join a team before the season starts so please contact us for all age groups for further information. We are especially looking for Year 10 Girls for our Under 15 team, and year 6 girls to play in our Under 11's.
