Wyre Forest Phoenix Girls 2 v 1 Evesham United Robins

The Under 13's played Evesham only last week, these two teams knew exactly how each other played. Phoenix took a first half lead after Angel Childe opened her Phoenix goal scoring account. They lead until midway through the second half when Evesham equalised. However, this week Phoenix pressed Evesham and got their just rewards when Angel Childe scored her second goal of the game. This time Phoenix stood strong defensively and held on for the win. Final score 2-1. Goals Angel Childe (2).

Coundon Court Girls 3 v 3 Wyre Forest Phoenix Girls

The Under 14 Flyers were away to Coundon Court who looked a strong squad at the warm up but the Flyers were up for it. The Flyers got off to a strong start and after just 4 minutes a cross from Sydney Harris was met by Fleur Connolly’s head to bag goal number one Despite Coundon’ s fight back, another terrific run down the wing by Sydney and crossed high found Fleur’ s head for her second. Erin Price, Syd and Fleur had attempts on goal to maintain the pressure, but plenty of battling by the Flyers and a dummy on the goalie meant that Fleur found her hat trick after 24 minutes, to finish the half 0-3.

Coundon had received a good talking to at half time and scored after just 1 minute of the restart. The second half was more challenging for the Flyers and Coundon fumbled a goal in after 6 minutes after the Flyers couldn't clear. The flow was with Coundon, but the Flyers fought on and despite Lucy McLatchy and Jasmin Cartwright’s efforts the Flyers couldn't stop Coundon equalising on 22 minutes. The game ended with a 3-3 draw despite further Flyer’s shots being saved and the team feeling battered and bruised from a physical and challenging game. Goals: Fleur Connolly (3) Girl of the game was Jasmin Cartwright, who was brave, decisive and made some great saves.

Wyre Forest Phoenix Girls 0 v 6 Droitwich Spa Girls

The Under 18 welcomed old rivals Droitwich Spa to Brown Westhead Park for the second game of the season. There was early parity in the game but an unthreatening throw in was suddenly threaded to the edge of our box and a low shot to the bottom corner for the first goal on 5 Minutes.. Restarting after the 3rd Droitwich goal, we caught Droitwich napping and a ball to a lone Kat Baylis up front was fired on target but saved by their keeper. However it was Droitwich who found the net to make it 0-4 at half time.

The second period saw an improvement in our play and movement was more free-flowing. We forced a double corner after six mins and five mins later won a free kick just outside their area, but still to no avail. Unfortunately we were once again makers of our own undoing when a cross was not blocked and an unchallenged player directed the ball goal wards. We managed to alleviate Droitwich’s threat for another 16 mins before a direct free kick was awarded to them just over 20 yards from goal. The result a superbly taken kick, high into the back of the net. 0-6 which is where it finished. Player of the Match was awarded to Naomi Wilkinson for her consistency and great effort all over the pitch.

Hereford and Worcester Girls and Women's County League

Wyre Forest Phoenix Ladies County 1 (0) v 4 (1) AFC Bridgnorth Ladies

Today saw WFP Ladies County kicked off the season with a home game against AFC Bridgnorth. We knew this would be a tough game with a full squad but with only 10 players available it was going to be hard. We had the kick off and more or less with our first attack we had a chance to score but the ball went just wide of the post then another chance went begging as Kirsten Oliver’s left foot shot was saved by the keeper tipping it around for a corner. We were playing some real good pass and move football which our opponents couldn’t cope with but we couldn’t find the net. Then on 23 mins Bridgnorth attacked down the right wing, our defender was well in control of the situation but with the defender waiting for the keeper to claim the ball, the Bridgnorth player nicked the ball and slotted it into the net so against the run of play we were 1 nil down which was the score at halftime.

The second half kicked off and again it began much as the first with us attacking at every opportunity but alas no joy then we conceded two goals within the space of 10 mins making the score now 3 nil to Bridgnorth. You could see that tiredness was a big factor but after all the effort we rewarded with a great goal. From a Vicky Hyde corner, up rose Mellissa Knott to head in from close range score. Once play resumed the goal seemed to give the team a big lift and the play we produced deserved a couple more goals, but again, mainly due to very tired legs, our opposition scored to finish the game 1-4. Goal : Melissa Knott. Vicky Hyde was Girl of the Game as selected by Bridgnorth, but as a manager I have to praise all the ladies efforts today, a real battling performance being a player short. Next week away to AFC Worcester.

West Midlands Regional Women's League Cup

Droitwich Spa Ladies 3 v 1 Wyre Forest Phoenix

WFP Ladies team travelled to Droitwich in confident mood on the back of a 7-0 win the previous week, but failed to overturn the promoted newcomers to this league. In fact Droitwich had a lot to prove and made sure that WFP could not get into the flowing game style they played the previous week, closing us down at every opportunity. Within the first five minutes, Goalkeeper Tracy Evans had to pull off two fantastic saves as the home side found the gaps in the defence, while at the other end WFP created chance but saw their shots just miss the goal. Deadlock was broken on 30 minutes when the home side pinched the ball from our defence and fired a rocket of a shot into the top right corner. It took 10 minutes for WFP to level the game following an excellent free kick from Bex Meredith which was drilled into the bottom right corner. Just as we thought half time would be level, Droitwich were awarded a penalty for a controversial decision when Kelly Preece tackled the player in the box, got the ball but the referee said she got the player first. 2-1 at half time.

WFP made a couple of substitutions during the second half and created some excellent chances, but every time was blocked by a wall of Droitwich players, finding it impossible to break. Droitwich got their final winning goal on 75 minutes after some neat footwork in the box beat the on-coming keeper.

WFP will feel as though they should have got something from the game but will have to accept defeat and look to improve next game when they entertain Rubery.
