With few games scheduled due to the half term break this was the second weekend when not everybody was playing. It was not Phoenix’s best weekend on results but yet again another milestone was reached within the club. This weekend saw our newest and youngest team, the Under 9 boys, win their first game, showing the excellent progress they have made in the short time they have been playing.

Wyre Forest Phoenix Boys v Kinver Colts
The Wyre Forest Phoenix Under 9 Boys team started the game on form with Thomas Robinson scoring a great goal within the first two minutes. The team worked well together, keeping their positions and passing the ball between them. Joseph Evans and Brandon Williams also got on the score sheet. Tyler-Jay Wilding the goalie for the first half made some great runs out of goal to deny the other team any goals. Finlay Powell made some great runs into space, creating chances on goal. Madison Collins and John Brennan defended brilliantly, marking their players and making it difficult for the other team to get past. Finley Preston made some amazing tackles, getting the ball from the other team and playing it up the pitch. Well-played boys! And congratulations on your first win for the club. Goals: Thomas Robinson, Joseph Evans, Brandon Williams.
Wyre Forest Phoenix Flyers Girls 1 v 4 Coventry Girls
The Under 14’s returned to play after a week off and the first half got off to a good start for the Flyers. With a stand-in goalie, the Flyers were playing quite well, but couldn't get the ball out of midfield to the front. The deadlock was broken after 12 minutes when Coventry had a clear run up the right and hit a solid shot which dipped over the goalie. The Flyers came out fighting but it was a defensive slip that handed Coventry their second after 15 minutes. The Flyers kept battling and there were some good saves, and near misses. The second half saw a change in Keeper and although the Flyers were still not playing as well as they can, they were holding Coventry, just waiting to get the ball clear and up to the forwards. However it was Coventry that capitalised again after 16 minutes. More strong play from the Flyers and it was probably the goal of the season from Coventry that came flying in from the left that beat the Flyers goalie at 26 minutes to extend the lead for Coventry. Heads still didn't go down and 2 minutes later the Flyers got the ball up front and Ellie Jones shot across goal to find the bottom left corner to finish 1-4. That was the only consolation for the Flyers, apart from the Coventry manager congratulating the Flyers on giving them their toughest test so far this season. Goals: Ellie Jones (1)
Well done girls for sticking in there, keeping your heads up. Well done to Courtney Stringer for Girl of the Game for strong play and using her head!

Midwest Counties Female Football League
Wyre Forest Phoenix Ladies County 1 (1) v 6 (4) Hereford Lads Club
Today saw WFP Ladies County at home to top of the league Hereford Lads and with only 10 players we feared the worse. The final score does not reflect the game as we literally gave them 4 goals through various defensive mistakes. All that said Hereford did outplay us in some areas of the pitch because of the extra pair of legs they had. Our goal was scored by Stef Lambert from a free kick 30yrds out leaving the keeper had no chance. Final Score 1-6 after the game was abandoned 10 minutes early after an ambulance was called for Vicky Hyde who hit the ground during a Phoenix attack.
Girl of the game went to Emilia Sinden, but I also have to mention newcomer Morgan Lawley, who after a nervous start got more into the game and produced some good passing which we hope she will continue in the coming weeks. At home again next week in the league cup to Wct Raiders. Upon reflection if it hadn’t have been for our help the score would have been closer, it as we played some good stuff in the second half, with regular attacks. The major downside is however another injury to contend with but we wish our injured players all a speedy recovery.
West Midlands Regional Women's League Home
Malvern Town Ladies 4 (1) v 2 (1) Wyre Forest Phoenix
WFP Ladies team travelled to Malvern on the back of a good win the previous week. However, due to work commitments and injuries just about managed to scrape 11 players together for this tough encounter. The game started well, on what must be the widest pitch in the league with both keepers being tested early on, and with WFP hitting the cross bar on 15 minutes when Kirsty Jones tried to lob the keeper. WFP took the lead on 35 minutes when the hosts did a back pass to the keeper which Kirsty Jones managed to chase down and deflect into the net. Malvern piled on the pressure for the equaliser, and WFP defence did very well to thwart this attack up until a minute from the break when Malvern's pressure paid off and scored to level it up going into half time.
The second half saw the hosts make a change which really turned the balance of the game. The heavy conditions were tiring the legs of WFP, and without substitutes started to struggle in the game. After 20 minutes from the re-start Malvern put 2 goals past us within 10 minutes and scored again 10 minutes from the end to give them a 4-1 lead. A proud set of players on the Phoenix team never gave up and still continued to attack to get something out of the game and with 5 minutes to go Rebecca Carter smashed in from a set piece corner. Unfortunately this was the best we could get and Malvern were the victors, but the 11 WFP players that turned up on the day gave absolutely everything they could and were praised by the management for their efforts. Player of the match went to Molly Maguire. Goals: Kirsty Jones (1), Rebecca Carter (1).
