Unfortunately this weekend was quiet for Phoenix with only one league game played by the Youth games. The main event was the Ladies game in the County Cup on Sunday which they won convincingly.
The Under 18 team were hosts to Leamington Lions but lost 1-5 with their only goal coming from an Eilidh Shakespeare corner.
Sunday 16 November 2014
Hereford & Worcester County Cup
Droitwich Belles 1 v 10 Wyre Forest Phoenix Ladies Quarter Final
WFP Ladies 1st team moved one step closer to retaining the County Cup as they swept aside Droitwich Belles from the County League with an impressive display of football on a very heavy playing surface. From the whistle they looked like scoring only to be denied by some outstanding goalkeeping from the home side, who even saved a penalty during the game.
However it was only inevitable that under this pressure the home side would concede and with goals coming from Kirsty Roberts (5), Chelsea Mudge (3) who also got player of the match, Sadie Brown and a first for Jess Richards.
What really made the game so impressive was the control that WFP had on the game. Combination and link up play was happening all through the team and even some very impressive switch play. The team are really starting to gel now and the new players are settling in and finding their form The home side did manage to get a consolation goal for their perseverance and the home fans erupted as if they had won the match. Great to see that kind of support.
A great and proud performance. Well done to the team
