Another proud moment for Phoenix this weekend as the club saw another new team, the Under 9 Girls, take their first steps into league football, a new league in the Mercian Fortis, running for just a few weeks as a starter league, as previously girls below Under 10 have not been able take part.. As in line with the leagues for the under 9 age group the scores will not be published, however we can still recognise their achievements in a match report.
Only four other teams were in action this weekend, another quiet weekend for Phoenix.

Wyre Forest Phoenix v Warndon Village
The Under 9 Girls played their first ever game together. Although it was hard work for them on a big pitch, they played so incredibly well together and showed us they will keep going with a smile on their faces. It was a great game to watch and in the team’s first match they scored their first goals courtesy of Grace Gallagher-Kennett and Holly Durbin. Well done girls and today’s Star player was Ella Ward
Wyre Forest Phoenix Girls 2 v 4 Solihull Moors
The Under 14’s were playing following the cancellation of 2 games. We welcomed top of the table Solihull. The Flyers were slow to start despite being keen and a lob from the Solihull attacker beat the Flyers defence and the goalie in the second minute to take Solihull ahead and again punished the Flyers after 5 minutes. The Flyers dug in and started to play football which was rewarded after Fleur Connolly’s powerful free kick went into the Solihull goal after 9 minutes. The game was then much closer and the Flyers started to match Solihull, but it was Solihull that scored next after 20 minutes. The Flyers kept battling and a great cross after 34 minutes from Lucy McLatchy went curving in towards the goalie, who fumbled it and it slipped in. Despite pressure from the Flyers they just couldn't get the shot off to level the game before halftime to end 2-3.
The Flyers were starting to up the pressure when the second half kicked off but it was Solihull that grabbed another goal after 5 minutes The run of the game was going the Flyers way and Solihull were starting to tire, checking how long was left!. It was Fleur that nearly broke the deadlock with a cracking shot after 23 minutes but was denied by the cross bar. The Flyers battled on but couldn't get any more goals to finish with a very respectable score line, despite deserving more they deserved more. 2-4 Goals: Fleur Connolly (1), Lucy McLatchy (1). A very tight game. Well done to girl of the game Emily Pitt who was improving throughout the game as the new goalie, despite lots of other great performances.
