It was a weekend of excellent results this weekend, with some great team performances. The most rewarding achievement went to our youngest and newest Girls team when they won their first ever game, so massive congratulations to them. There was also plenty of goals and excitement.

Wyre Forest Phoenix Raiders 12 v 0 Kewford Eagles
The Under 10 Raiders continued their unbeaten start to the league season with a 12-0 victory against Kewford Eagles. Hat-tricks for Rosie Lawley, Isabelle Gibbons and Libby Drapier gave phoenix a 9-0 lead before 2 goals from Caitlin Stanton and 1 from Daisy Jenkins rounded off the 12-0 victory. Girl of the game was awarded to Daisy Jenkins for coming out of goal and scoring her first goal for the team
Wyre Forest Phoenix 8 v 1 Gornal
The Under 14’s were again at home with good conditions, no snow and just a little damp. With no goalie Weronika Pawlowska and Megan Morris volunteered to cover. The Flyers that took the early advantage of the early pace when after 9 minutes a superb shot from Lucy McLatchy started the scoring. The Flyers kept up the pace and Sydney Harris was working well on the wing. Despite a number of near misses it took 25 minutes for a great corner crossed in for Lucy McLatchy to finish. Another near miss saw Half time at 2-0, with our keeper hardly troubled.
A change of keeper for the second half and it didn't take long for Lucy to meet a great ball in from a Syd corner to find the back of the net after just 5 minutes. The Flyers had things under control with some good football and only a little to do in their own half, all of which Meg was dealing with easily if it managed to get past our defence. Finally Syd was rewarded for her hard work when a great shot found the back of the net, followed 2 minutes later when she skilled a second. The game and the pace settled a little, but on 24 minutes Syd curved the ball in for a beautiful goal, Gornal kept battling and a clearance was met by their midfielder who chipped it well, just over Meg's outstretched hands in to the net for Gornal's consolation goal. It was not all over though as a cross into the middle was met by Erin Price and Weronika, who headed it on to her foot, did a little twirl and the ball ended up in the back of the net. It looked like Weronika's foot but it could have been either. In the dying minutes a throw in was met by Lucy, who hooked a great shot in to the back of the net to finish 8-1. Goals: Lucy McLatchy (4), Sydney Harris (3), Weronika Pawlowska (1). Girl of the game was Lucy, who worked hard, covered lots of midfield and defensive positions, and made a huge impact particularly with 4 goals.
Wyre Forest Phoenix 1 v 3 Coventry City Ladies
For the Under 18 it was third time lucky, with Coventry City Ladies finally arriving at Wolverley after two postponements of this cup fixture. Despite being underdogs Phoenix performed to the high level of last week. After just 5 Minutes Coventry were totally shell shocked when Kathryn Bayliss pounced on a back pass to the keeper. A deflection to Molly Knight saw her hit the post, only for Kat to follow up, and force the ball into the net. Coventry settled after 20 Minutes but any chances were blocked well or sent wide or over the bar. Despite their nice passing and probing outside our area we frustrated them. It meant the home side went into the break with a pleasing 1-0 lead.
Phoenix threw down the gauntlet in the second half and Coventry had no option but to rise to the challenge and held onto the their lead for an incredible 68 minutes before the away side were finally rewarded with a blistering strike from outside the area. City gained more confidence and subsequently edged the control of the game. Phoenix’ hearts were broken when play led to a pass across the box and a one touch, low volley into the corner of the goal put the home team behind. Three minutes from time, Coventry floated the ball high into the net off the underside of the cross bar to see a final score 1-3. Goal: Kathryn Baylis (1) .

Midwest Counties Female Football League
Wyre Forest Phoenix 3 (2) v 1 (1) Welland
WFP Ladies County Welland Ladies on very cold but sunny afternoon and with Welland beating us earlier on in the season the team wanted this game. With a convincing win we were rewarded, despite wasting a number of chances which would have truly emphasised result and given a fairer score. Just three minutes in Georgia Lambert scored with a left foot shot, created by Vicky Hyde who also created Mellissa Knott’s first goal. The third goal was a penalty taken by Mellissa Knott to give her a brace, after a Welland player hand balled on the goal line. However she missed her hat trick after she missed a second penalty. Their consolation goal came from a cross into the box to reach a final score 3-1. Goals: Georgia Lambert (1), Melissa Knott (2). Emilia Sinden was named Girl of the game by Welland. In summary we played some real neat and tidy football in patches today and it was a pleasure to watch. Well done ladies you got what you deserved today for all the effort you put in.
