The theme this weekend seemed to be the number 10 with all teams that were in action starting with just 10 players. With the school’s starting their Easter Break, only one youth team had a game, but both Ladies teams were in action.

Worcester City 3 v 1 Wyre Forest Phoenix Flyers

The Under 14 Flyers’s played their 7th away game on the run and with a number of missing players.

With some confusion on the venue and the Ref keen to crack on the Flyers kicked off with 10 players, against the wind and with some players covering different positions, but doing well. Then, from nowhere Worcester played the ball over the top, aided by the wind and some tussling in the box they managed to get the ball past Jaz Cartwright to take the lead. The wind and style of Worcester's play was tricky, but the Flyers did well and held Worcester until they managed to sneak another goal after 16 minutes. The Flyers continued to give it their all and when they broke again Jaz was ready and made a great save 5 minutes later to reach half time at 0-2.

The Flyers came out fighting with the wind on their side, and soon Fleur hit a cracking shot which went just over the cross bar after 12 minutes. Then 3 minutes later Lucy was one-on-one with the goalie and put in a good shot which was gathered by the goalie. It was against the run of play 3 minutes later when Worcester broke and managed to get a ball in on the rebound following another good save from Jaz. The Flyers fought really hard and had Worcester under pressure and when Brooke saw her chance and in the 31st minute she shot from the half way line. The wind carried it and the goalie touched the ball with her fingertips but the momentum was too much and the ball went in to the back of the net. The Flyers had the bit between their teeth and kept breaking through but time and with only 10 versus Worcester's 11, the Flyers didn't manage to improve the score line and finished 3-1. Goal: Brooke Harris. Girl of the game was Jasmin Cartwright.

Midwest Counties Female Football League

Wyre Forest Phoenix 0 v 5 Bartestree Ladies

Today saw WFP Ladies County play their last home game of the season and with only 10 players available due to sickness and injuries (reduced to nine for approximately 30 minutes due to injury), and against 3rd in the table Bartestree, (who beat us earlier in the season 8 nil), it was not expected for us to get anything out of this game, which turned out to be the case. Although we held them to 1 nil at halftime the final score was a 5 nil loss. Again credit must be given to give all the players, never giving in and battling until the end. Captain Stef Lambert went in goal as she was suffering with a throat infection, and she played a blinder with a number of outstanding saves. However Girl of the Game went to Georgia Lambert who after getting injured early in the game, came back onto the pitch and soldiered on till the end. We now have 4 weeks off, due to Easter and other teams having to catch up with games, before our last game against unbeaten Hereford lads Club.

West Midlands Regional Women's League

Marsden Green 2 v 3 Wyre Forest Phoenix

WFP Ladies team once again we travelled with only 10 players, this time to Marston Green who were one place above us before the start of the game. So 3pts were the target, knowing it was difficult already a player down. On top of that we had gale force winds to contend with…..you could say it was a game of one half for both teams as the windy conditions caught any ball in the air and threw it back at you.

We started the game with the wind at our backs and were keen to capitalise on this advantage. It took 35 minutes to break down the defences with a superb lob from 35yds from Chelsea Mudge. 5 minutes later and Chelsea played an important role in setting up Molly Maguire for a 6yd shot at close range.

The second half was mainly defending as every time keeper, and player of the match, Tracy Evans kicked off the floor, the wind got hold and we were defending. We had 1 break in Marston’s half which fell to leading team goal scorer Kirsty Roberts to smash a shot from 35yds as she noticed the keeper off the line. We all thought the wind would take it and prevent it going in but the power of the shot got the better of the conditions and it was a relief to see it hit the back of the net.

Marston never gave up and did manage to get 2 goals back, but Phoenix ladies held on to the lead to record 3 wins in a row for the first time this season and move us 2 places up the table. Goals: Chelsea Mudge (1), Kirsty Roberts (1), Molly Maguire (1). Girl of the Games was Tracy Evans.
