Warndon Village Wildcats 2 v 0 Wyre Forest Phoenix
Wyre Forest Phoenix 0 v 2 Warndon Village Wildcats
The Under 13's Phoenix played a double header against Warndon and unfortunately lost 2-0 in both games.
Game 1: In the first 10 minutes, Phoenix were camped in the Warndon half however could not take any of their chances. Then just before half time they allowed the Warndon player to run the length of the pitch without being challenged and she crossed into the box and it was converted despite Bethany Savage getting her hand to it. The second half was also a tightly fought contest and as Phoenix pushed for an equaliser they were undone by a carbon copy move 2-0.
Game 2: The second game went the same away. A very poor decision from the referee giving a penalty for an apparent trip set Warndon on their way. Phoenix continued to battle and Jess Jenkin's long throws were causing Warndon all sorts of problems. However again Phoenix pushed for an equaliser and were caught on the break. The second game also finishing 2-0.
A disappointing result as the girls played so well but again nothing to show for their efforts. Girl of the game was Bethany Savage.

League Cup Semi Final
Wyre Forest Phoenix 4 v 2 Lye Town
WFP Ladies have reached the league Cup Final for the very first time after seeing off League champions Lye Town in a thrilling semi-final. Up to this game Lye had only lost 1 game and clinched the champions title in formidable form and were looking to get the double this year, so we had everything to play for and nothing to lose, as they say.
From the kick off Lye were threatening, looking to put their stamp on the game early. Our defensive team of Amy Rutland, Kelly Preece and Jodi Boraston, gave them no quarter, and were solid as a unit. Tracy Evans, in goal, was also on form and after 20 mins she threw a ball out to the left where Sadie Brown was free. Sadie passed to Captain Kat Meredith who picked out a perfect pass through the defence for Kirsty Roberts to fire past the on-coming keeper. This goal lifted the team spirit so much and every player was out to defend the lead. Kirsty had a chance to double the lead only to see her shot just go wide of the upright. Lye were determined, and never gave up, playing some good technical football. When they did break through the defence, Tracy pulled off 2 first class saves in a matter of minutes to deny them getting anything back and keeping us up at the half time break.
The second half started much like the first, with Lye pressing hard. After about 5min of the restart we thought that was it as a Lye striker had a 1v1 with Tracy who made herself a large target and parried the shot wide. A brilliant save. The midfield team of Molly Maguire, Kat Meredith and Jess Richards were now supplying balls out to the wingers, Sadie Brown and Rebecca Carter who were themselves causing problems.
Chelsea Mudge and Kirsty up front were also creating space and on 60 min Kirsty got her second of the game. This time, it was a free kick lobbed over the wall by Kelly Preece to find Kirsty who cheekily lobbed it over the keeper. As Lye made some changes to formation and personnel, WFP ladies dug in hard. Everyone working tirelessly to defend the lead, knowing it could go at any time. Kirsty Roberts though had better ideas as she received a ball from a counter-attack move to smash in off the cross bar. The team were in high spirits and never expected to be in this position. Inevitably, a slip in concentration allowed Lye to get a goal back with 15 mins left on the clock. This must have been the longest 15 min ever, but WFP ladies got their 4th goal, as another through ball met Danni Morris, who slipped it past the keeper to See Kirsty Roberts run in and tap into an empty net for her fourth. In the dying seconds of the game, Lye got another goal from a well worked set-piece corner, but too little too late as shortly after the referee blew up.
Player of the match went to Kirsty Roberts who bagged all for goals, but my respect goes to the whole team who battled for this win and played their hearts out.
The Final is scheduled for May 24th at Stone Dominoes FC in Yarnfield, Stone with a 1.00pm Kick Off. The Ladies are hoping that the club supporters will travel the long journey to support them in this historic achievement and hopefully cheer them on to victory. A coach will be supplied on the day, so anyone interested in tickets should contact Paul Lacey on 07940 484332.
