Warndon Village Wildcats v Wyre Forest Phoenix
The Under 10 Girls went to Warndon having only 6 players available due to the colder weather and illness. They started with 7 players as its 7 aside and scored within 2 minutes. They then took off a player to make it 6v6. We were playing some good football and had a few chances but so did they. On 10 minutes some great passing from left to right set Grace Gallagher- Kennett off and she smashed the ball into the net from edge of the area to make it 1-1 at half time.
Second half saw end to end football with us playing some good football. It payed off when Caitlin Anderson slotted the ball into the net with a slight deflection from the keeper. Despite Warndon coming at us we held out for the win. Goals: Grace Gallagher-Kennett, Caitlin Anderson. Player of the match went to Caitlin Anderson.
Droitwich Spa Ravens 0 v 1 Wyre Forest Phoenix
The Under 14 Girls arrived in Droitwich high on confidence and the game began in typical fashion for Phoenix, controlling the game with calm, steady possession. Despite creating chances continuously, we were unable to find the net. An unsuccessful penalty appeal saw the game reach half-time 0 – 0.
In the second half meant our keeper was untroubled. It still looked like we would not score, despite our continued efforts and the ball simply The Droitwich keeper made some excellent saves. Finally, however Chloe Reading scored thanks to an excellent cute finish. Despite Droitwich growing into the game after the goal, Phoenix calmly defended and forced Droitwich into twenty yard shots which saw our keeper untroubled, and ultimately, we won 0-1. Goal: Chloe Reading. Player of the Match was difficult, but the award ultimately went to Jenna Carolan.
Santiago Colts 3 v 2 Wyre Forest Phoenix
The Under 18 Girls played their first match of the season having had a delayed start due to lack of numbers. What an amazing start too, when Phoenix took the lead in the first half, but their hosts, Santiago Colts, equalised to make the score level at half time. Phoenix went ahead again early in the second half, only to be thwarted late on, to be edged out to a 3-2 final score line. There was plenty of controversy too with a disputed offside against us and a handball on the goal line not given. The girls gelled together so quickly and put in a really promising, hard fought performance for ninety minutes which bodes really well for the rest of the season. Goals: Kathryn Baylis (1), Molly Knight (1).
