STUDENTS from Bewdley and Kidderminster's IMAA and Tae Kwon Do School of Excellence brushed up on their weapon skills at a bo staff workshop.

More than 40 students attended the bo staff class, which is the clubs' first workshop of the year.

The session was instructed and hosted by chief coach Russell Perks, fourth degree black belt and club instructor Sebastian Bird, third degree black belt.

Students of various grades and ages covered an array of techniques, including blocking, striking, two-way partner flow drills, advanced single hand spins along with the first bo staff Hyung.

The course was attended by students with mixed abilities, ranging from high dan grades with a background in weaponry to complete novices. By the end of the session, they all felt confident and proud that they had all obtained a new skill.

Chief Instructor Russell Perks said: "This is a growing idea for our clubs, following last year's event we feel that progression has been made, and as such our students want to learn more martial arts skills."

The clubs are set to hold other workshops, including a nunchak session, later in the year as well as a weekend summer training camp in August.
