HOCKEY: Stourport were shot down by City of Peterborough in the Slazenger League National North Division 7-3 on Saturday.
The fourth-placed team were out gunned by their mid-table rivals, who cannot catch them in the league.
Defeat means that a promising season is finishing with a mini-slump at the end of the campaign.
After recording just one defeat in 12 games mid-way through the season, Stourport have now lost two of their last three matches.
On Saturday Stourport were no match for Peterborough, who took a 2-0 lead before Phil Lashford pulled a goal back from the open play.
Two more strikes allowed home side Peterborough to streak into a 4-1 lead before Lashford made it 16 goals for the season in the 40th minute.
But the home side confirmed Stourport's biggest defeat of the season by scoring two more goals.
Captain Mark Moss scored a consolation from the penalty spot.
Stourport conceded a final effort to seal a miserable day for the men's team.
The team will be aiming to bounce back in their final game of the season away at Leek on Sunday.
n Stourport women's second team filled their boots with a 11-0 demolition of Droitwich's first team.
Fran Moss bagged a hat-trick, while Claire Dodd (2), Nick Beasley, Liz Cooke (2), Alex Totney, Fran Baron and Shelley Tromans hit the back of the net.
A combined thirds and fourths team came from behind to defeat Olton 6-2, with Lorna Hawthorn (2), Georgia Hingley, Kate Bailey (2) and Jade Marshall-Walker on target.
