CYCLING: Wyre Forest CRC junior James Plant made a strong start to his racing career when he rode his first circuit road race for the club last weekend.

The 12-year-old competed strongly despite being hampered by strong winds and rain in Milton Keynes to finish 11th in the under-14s age group.

Plant then went on to ride the VC Sevale 10 mile time trial at Severn Stoke on Saturday, and despite having to ride in strong gusting winds, he completed the tough technical course in a superb time of 40-39.

Jon Howard was the first to cross the line for Wyre Forest and showed some good early season form with a time of 24-13 for ninth place overall, followed by Andy Convery (24-37,12th), Dave Prior (31-09, 41st), Brian Clarke (31-35, 44th) and Mick Gray (32-46, 46th).

Wyre Forest's other junior rider in the event, Louise Rotherham, put in a good ride to finish with a very respectable 36-39 to win the women's junior rider title.

Plant is aiming to put on a show at the Shrewsbury circuit races, which start on May 17.
