Stourport Swifts 2
Bishops Cleeve 1
STAR man Shane Gill and master midfielder Richard Colwell grabbed the goals that helped Stourport to a vital victory at Walshes Meadow.
But Neil Hunt's side almost paid the price for not completing the task before the break as their visitors finished strongly in their bid to salvage a point.
Swifts dominated the first half and would have been clear had it not been for Cleeve keeper Sam Gilder who produced a string of fine saves, notably from Craig Williams, Nathan Jukes and Richard Burgess.
But he was helpless to stop Gill from handing Stourport a 19th minute lead, the striker calmly slotting home after collecting a defence-splitting Lee Tomkins pass.
The second half saw the Gloucestershire visitors come more into the game and Michael Davis hit the crossbar with a corner just moments after the restart.
Jukes was then on hand to head a Kacey Johnson effort off the line before Swifts scored what was to prove the winning goal, Colwell firing home a 78th minute penalty following Nick Williams' handball.
Substitute Kevin Slack reduced the deficit in injury time but there was too much for the visitors to do and Stourport bagged all three points.
Swifts: Jay 6, Smith 7, Robinson 6, Jukes 7 (Wood 67, 6), Charles 6, Tomkins 7, Colwell 7, Williams 7 (Webb 62, 6), Burgess 6 (Lavery 79), GILL 8, Gayton 6. Subs (not used): Grey, McComisky
