National League North strugglers Marine left Aggborough with a share of the spoils after holding Harriers to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday night.

The goal-shy outfit have netted just four goals so far this season and sit inside the bottom four.

They produced a sterling defensive display, however, to frustrate Phil Brown’s men and reduce them to just a handful of chances, while themselves having a gilt-edged opportunity to snatch the ideal smash-and-grab away win in the second half.

Having in their previous outing dispatched Needham Market, who coincidentally slipped to the bottom of the table on Tuesday night with a further defeat, Harriers went into the Marine clash with two changes to their starting eleven. Out went Maz Kouhyar and David Davis, with Maliq Cadogan and Jack Lambert restored to the side.

It was the visitors who created the first of the game’s chances. Christian Dibble made a couple of crucial saves on the night, the first coming after just nine minutes when Owen Robinson’s free kick looked destined for the top corner, an outstretched hand tipping it over the bar.

Joey Mattock then headed off target for Neil Young’s men, Ashley Hemmings then planting a header off target at the other end with 38 on the clock. That seemed to open the game up a little, as Caleb Richards and Amari Morgan-Smith went close in quick succession before the break with a low shot and header over the bar respectively.

On the stroke of half time, Hemmings produced a smart save from visiting stopper Matty Curran, a spinning low drive tipped expertly around the post.

The second half saw Harriers edge close to an opener when Jack Lambert’s corner delivery struck the bar, before Dibble showed superb composure to keep the scores level by standing up to thwart Fin Sinclair-Smith who’d charged through one on one.

Corran then held Lambert’s 70th minute attempt, before substitute Adam Thomas saw his looping header clip the frame of the goal for Marine.

The final ten minutes failed to really produce a grandstand finish or build-up of momentum for either side, though Zak Brown did blaze an effort over for Harriers before former Aggborough man Regan Griffiths watched as his dipping effort landed on the roof of Dibble’s net.

After picking up four points against sides near the foot of the table in Needham Market and Marine, Harriers tackle another of the division’s strugglers on Saturday with the tricky trip to Peterborough Sports.
