HARRIERS boss Stuart Watkiss hopes to have recruited two new faces - a striker and a midfielder - in time for Saturday's trip to Burton Albion, writes Mat Kendrick.
The Aggborough manager spent the build-up to last night's LDV clash in Boston on the phone trying to arrange a couple of temporary transfers to bolster his line-up.
Ahead of today's loan deadline, Watkiss was playing his cards close to his chest, admitting that he had been pursuing a host of targets.
"To be honest I've been looking at a couple of players in each position, midfielders and strikers," he said.
"It would be unfair to say any more than that because some of the players we've been after haven't even been told by their managers.
"Until the deals are signed and sealed I'm reluctant to say anything more, but, hopefully we'll have two new players on loan before the Burton game."
Providing his players are showing no ill-effects from last night's Northern Section round two tie, Watkiss will keep a settled side for Saturday's visit to the Pirelli Stadium.
Terry Fleming, rested last night after displaying flu symptoms this week, could again miss out if the manager keeps faith with his midfield young guns.
Watkiss believes his side need a lucky break after controversial penalty incidents in their last two games.
"I've watched the York non-penalty and if I thought it was a stonewall penalty on the day, on video it's actually assault!" he said.
"These things seem to be happening to us a lot lately and we could do with a break.
"Burton have climbed the table recently after a decent run and they're confidence is high after knocking Peterborough out of the FA Cup, so it's another tough test for us.
"We can look at our form in one of two ways. Should we be happy that we've started to produce some better performances, or should we be concerned that we're playing well but still not picking up points?
"I personally won't be happy until we start winning games and climbing the table and that's what my players should be aiming for too."
Former Harriers Andy Ducros and Andy Corbett are likely to be on the bench for Nigel Clough's men on Saturday.
Ducros has been restricted to a bit-part role after struggling with injuries in the past few months.
Corbett is also expected to be among the subs despite making a instant impact after coming on as a sub in Burton's 3-1 win over Crawley.
Originally signed as a striker, Corbett was Burton's player of the season after switching to right-back last term.
Also hoping for a run out against his former club will be Harriers midfielder Laurie Wilson who made 17 starts and nine substitute appearances for the Brewers last season.
Harriers will learn who they will face in their first game back in the FA Trophy when the draw for the first round proper is made at 11am on Monday.
Supporters can hear the draw live on the FA information line on 09066 555888 or visit the website www.FA.com. The tie will be on Saturday, December 17.
Junior supporters are reminded that they must collect a voucher from the club reception in advance of the Christmas party on Thursday, December 8.
