MANAGER Mark Yates is "not unduly worried" about Kidd-erminster's depleted strike-force ahead of Saturday's trip to Morecambe despite Andy White's return to Notts County.

Harriers expressed an interest in extending White's loan stay beyond the initial month, but the League Two club have recalled the target man to boost their flagging fortunes.

The 24-year-old scored just once in his five appearances, but made an important contribution up front with his strong hold up play, aerial ability and intelligent use of the ball.

His loss will be a big blow to Harriers, who have struggled to find the net since top scorer Iyseden Christie's sale to Rochdale on transfer deadline day.

Harriers travel to the play-off-chasing Shrimps having scored just two goals in their past five games.

But Yates believes he has sufficient fire-power in the form of Lee Thompson, Francis Francis and Gareth Sheldon to shoot his team to their fair share of victories.

"Notts County have had a few bad results and I don't think they've won since Andy left so I was half expecting them to take him back," said the manager.

"Andy's done really well here and if they've had him watched they'll have realised that.

"I'm glad for him that he'll get a chance there, but obviously I'm disappointed to lose him."

Yates revealed that he would monitor the situation and refused to rule out a summer swoop for the former Crewe and Mansfield man whose Meadow Lane contract expires in May.

Meanwhile, his attempts to bring in a short-term striker have met with frustration.

"I'm looking all of the time but there's nothing happening at the moment," said Yates.

"A couple of enquiries that I've made haven't come off and I'm still waiting to hear about another couple.

"Whether or not we'll have anybody else in on loan before the weekend I don't know at this stage."

If not, Yates is happy to rely on Thompson, Sheldon and Francis despite them sharing only four goals between them all season.

"I can choose two from three because we've got Francino and Lee or I can push Gaz forward," he said.

"I don't think we're going to score bucket-loads of goals but I think we'll get enough to win football matches so I'm not unduly worried."

Yates has a full squad to choose from for Saturday's trip to Christie Park with Terry Fleming available after a one-match ban.

Meanwhile, Thompson hopes to make up for his penalty miss at Forest Green Rovers by hitting the goals trail at Morecambe on Saturday.

The diminutive striker revealed that his soft spot kick in the 0-0 draw was his first penalty in professional football.

Thompson once scored two penalties in the same game for England under-18s - but has never taken one at club level.

"Obviously I'm gutted to have missed the penalty but hopefully it's just one of those things," he said.

"I didn't want it to happen because I think I've been playing well lately, which is why I had the confidence to take it in the first place.

"I was hoping that I'd score and that it would act as a stepping stone to help me kick on and score a few more."

Thompson's only goal in a Harriers shirt came with his head when he notched in the 4-0 FA Trophy win over Scarborough.

But the former Sheffield United youth-teamer is determined to finish the season with a flourish.

"I've been disappointed that I've only scored one this season, although I haven't played that many games up front," said Thompson.

"I don't want to sound big-headed but I think the rest of my play has been good lately and I've deserved a few goals.

"But it doesn't always work like that, sometimes you can play terribly and still score three."

Thompson is sad to see the end of his partnership with White, but insists he is ready to link-up with Francis, Sheldon, or whoever else is brought in to bolster the attack.

"I thought me and Andy did well together but we'll have to see what happens over the next few days and whether anybody else is brought in.

"I think I played quite well with Gareth Sheldon earlier in the season, so I don't mind who I'm paired with.

"As long as I'm given the chance and I continue to play well then hopefully I can finish the season with a few goals."

l Phil Mullen's young guns are through to the final of the Worcestershire Youth Cup after goals from Tom Byrne and Nathan Walker secured a 2-1 win over Evesham.

They will face either Worcester City or Lye Town in the final.
