EX Harrier Andy Bishop has emerged as an end-of-season target for Mark Yates - after the Aggborough boss said he failed with a swoop to land the York goal machine before transfer deadline day.
Yates admitted he was interested in talking to Bishop, who spent spells on loan with Kidderminster in 2002 and 2003, if the Minstermen fail to clinch promotion through the Nationwide Conference play-offs.
But the manager has warned Harriers fans that the club may not be able to afford the 23-year-old's wages, with Bishop expected to look for a big pay rise after his goalscoring heroics this season.
Yates also admitted that the former Walsall trainee, who has scored 18 times this term, is also likely to attract interest from a string of Football League clubs.
"I did try to get Andy Bishop but the goalposts were moved at the last minute and it didn't come off," said Yates.
"Andy Bishop is definitely a player Mark Yates would like to bring to this club to play for Kidderminster Harriers, but finances with Andy and his agent might dictate what we can do.
"I've spoken to his agent and if there's any possibility of him going into the League then that's where he's going.
"His agent is pretty sure he'll be offered a league club but he knows we'll be knocking on his door if nothing comes from a League club."
The Premier Group, an organisation run by Harriers fans including retired businessmen, offered to pay Bishop's wages earlier in the season and Yates added: "Rest assured we'll make every effort to get Andy Bishop here - we just might have to speak to the Premier Group about paying some of his wages.
"We're grateful to the Premier Group for everything they do and long may it continue."
