HARRIERS keeper Danny Lewis will miss Saturday’s Blue Square Premier showdown with Luton and could be out for the rest of the season after a scan discovered his knee injury was more serious than first thought.

Lewis missed Saturday’s 1-0 win at Kettering with an injury to his left knee sustained in training last Friday.

However, a scan today revealed the 29-year-old had severe damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.

The club will have a specialist look at the problem next week but if the injury is confirmed, he could be out for a maximum of nine months.

Physio Gavin Crowe said: “The radiologist confirmed there is significant change with Danny’s ACL which would indicate damage.

“I would stress we need confirmation of this from an orthopaedic specialist.

“If the damage is confirmed then Danny would need surgery and which keep him out for between six and nine months.”

Dean Lyness, 20, is set to keep his place in goal for Saturday’s home clash, after making his league debut at Nene Park.

Lewis had played 60 consecutive Blue Square Bet Premier games for Harriers before missing the Kettering match and had rarely been absent over the previous six years at previous clubs.

Harriers management are considering recalling on-loan keeper Haydn Whitcombe from Stourport Swifts as back-up.
